ITINERARY

Day one: Cusco - Cachora - Chiquisca

We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 am to start our trip to the town of Cachora (2,800 masl). En route, we will pass through different typical villages and also through the pampa de anta (3,391 masl). This area is known for its agricultural and livestock production, as well as for its wide pampas, grasslands, fertile valleys, and rivers. All this makes the area an extraordinary landscape. Upon arrival in Cachora, we will meet our trekking team, muleteers, mules/horses, and our staff, who will carry all the camping equipment and your personal duffel bags (up to 8 kg). After a short rest and a light breakfast, we will start our Trek. The first few hours of hiking will be on mostly flat terrain until we reach the Capuliyoc viewpoint and pass (2,800 masl). Here we will see exquisite views of the mountain range of the area, the Apurimac Canyon, and the Apurimac River, which is twice as deep as the famous "Grand Canyon" in the United States. This river is long and plentiful and is the source of the largest river system in the world, the Amazon. It crosses the entire Andes Mountain range until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean. We will also be able to see Choquequiraw in the distance. After lunch, we will continue our hike, descending to our campsite Chiquishca (1,930 masl). We will spend the night here, in the longest Canyon in the Andes. It crosses the entire Andes Mountain range until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean. We will also be able to see Choquequiraw in the distance. After lunch, we will continue our hike, descending to our campsite Chiquishca (1,930 masl). Here, we can take a dip in the water to refresh ourselves. Then, we will cross to the other side of the river using the hanging bridge. Right after that, the hardest part of the route begins. We will ascend a winding path that will take us away from the Canyon towards the Santa Rosa area (2,290 masl). This is a hike of approximately 3 hours with a brief rest stop. Later we will continue ascending towards Marampata (2,850 masl). During our hike, we will observe the vast and charming vegetation of the area in which orchids occupy the first and most important place. You will also see violets. After Breakfast in Marampampa (2,850 masl), we will begin our hike to the last refuge of the Incas: Choquequiraw or "Pesebre de Oro" (3,033 masl), which was abandoned in 1572. This hike will take approximately 1 ½ hour. Choquequiraw was designed with nine areas. These areas were built as small villages surrounding a plaza to which all the streets of each village will lead. The following areas have been identified: The high areas (Hanan), the storage areas (Qolqa), the main plaza (Huaqaypata), the low plaza (Hurin), the system of platforms where crops grew (Shaqra Anden), the ceremonial platform (Ushio), and the houses of the priests at the bottom of the hill. For all these findings, it is presumed that Choquequiraw was a great political and economic center that was used as a center of trade and cultural exchange between the coast, the highlands, and the jungle. We must emphasize that Choquequiraw is also known as "The Sacred Sister of Machu Picchu" due to the similarities in architectural design and structure. After this exciting visit and exploration of Choquequiraw, we will return to Marampata (2850 masl), where we will have lunch. Then we will descend to the Apurimac Canyon crossing the river through the Rosalina beach area (1550 masl) and continue to Chiquishca (1930 masl). Here we will have dinner and spend the night.
