Itinerary summary

  • Day two: Rayan-Inti Punku (Sun Gate)-Choquetakarpo.
  • Day three: Cachicata - Ollantaytambo
  • Day four: Ollantaytambo-Short Inca Trail-Machu Picchu.
  • Day Five: Guided Visit to Machu Picchu-Cusco.

Day One: Cusco - Socma - Perolniyoc - Rayan.

Early this morning, we moved to Soqma Village at 10,512 feet, driving for almost an hour and forty minutes. This is the trailhead to start the hike. At this juncture, we will get our horses as well as muleteers, prepare the hiking gear for the activity, and have our breakfast. Afterward, we will begin our hike ascending through a small valley to Perolniyoq. This site is a small Inca destination that stands at the top of the mountain. However, before this, we will see a magnificent waterfall, ideal for taking a series of photographs. After our arrival at the Inca destination, you will enjoy an explanation of the history of the site given by our trek leader. Then, we will head to our lunch spot, followed by our first camp, a one-hour hike.

Day Two: Rayan-Inti Punku (Sun Gate)-Cachicata.

A tasty breakfast puts us in the adventurous mood for Day Two. Immediately after breakfast, we will head up the trail to Pukaqasa 14,366', the first pass, on a hike of approximately three hours. We will savor the first outstanding views from the top of the snow-capped mountains and the Urubamba Valley. We will then walk downhill for approximately thirty minutes from this pass and proceed to our lunch spot. After lunch, we will continue walking along this trail, which meanders up to the highest point of the entire course known as Kuichikasa Rainbow Pass 14,596'. This is a place where you will enjoy beautiful views in all directions. After a while, about two and a half hours, we will walk downhill to reach the destination of an Inca jewel, known as the Sun Gate or Intipunku in the Quechua language. At this site, you will enjoy almost constant views of the snow-capped mountain Wakaywillka in the Urubamba range. From here, we will walk for another half hour from Inti Punku to reach our next campsite. This place is called Cachicata or quarry of the master stonecutters (11,874′). Every meal is included. The day's adventure takes us to Cachicata on a trekking activity that will last approximately one hour on the downhill part of this trail. A primary Inca rock quarry located five miles from the town of Ollantaytambo, Cachicata, used to be a place where ancient Inca stonemasons carved and polished rocks to build the Temple of the Sun in the village of Ollantaytambo. At this site, our trek leader will entertain us with the intriguing history of the destination. Afterward, for three hours, we will continue walking to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where the town of Ollantaytambo is located. Today we will have our final lunch on the outskirts of the city of Ollantaytambo. We will explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas in the afternoon.

Day three: Cachicata - Ollantaytambo

If you are looking for an alternative trek to Machu Picchu and don't like crowds, the Machu Picchu 4-day trek is absolutely for you; it is one of the most innovative treks that offers you unparalleled views of snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, Inca archaeological sites, valleys, and more. The route offers you this wonderful hike. Going with us, you will spend time with local farmers during your Trek to Machu Picchu.

Day Four: Ollantaytambo-Short Inca Trail-Machu Picchu.

We will come to your hotel to pick you up to take the train to Km 104, the start of the trail. Upon arriving at our destination, this train will make a stop for us to get off. We then start walking to the main checkpoint for everyone to check-in; the location of this place is at an elevation of 7,052 feet/2,150 meters. After registration, we will hike for a few minutes and arrive at the first Inca destination known as Chachabamba. This place has a central courtyard, temples, sacred rocks, etc. Here, the guide will give us detailed information about this site. Then, we will continue strolling uphill, savoring the enchanting landscapes until we reach the Inca temple of Wiñaywayna. This temple means eternally Young; here, our experienced guide will keep you entertained with the rich history of this place. After the exploration of the Inca temple, at the Wiñaywayna checkpoint, we will have refreshments or lunch to take with us. Then, we will continue with the hike and head to Machu Picchu for an additional 2 hours. We will reach this wonder of the world through the Sun Gate. From here, we will enjoy the first views of the famous Inca city and spend enough time capturing memorable images at this destination. Immediately upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will spend enough time taking amazing pictures of this Inca city because there are usually fewer people in the afternoon. Then, we will take the bus to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes town). Here, we will spend the night at the comfortable Cabaña hotel and enjoy our dinner at the restaurant. This final dinner is excluded.

Day Five: Machu Picchu-Cusco Guided Tour.

On day five, we enjoy an excellent breakfast at our hotel and prepare for a full exploration of Machu Picchu in the morning. The Trek Leader coordinates this private tour. Early in the morning, we will board the bus back to Machu Picchu for a great time that will last until 12:00 pm. At Machu Picchu, the first group is allowed to broadcast (from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm). If you have purchased a permit for Huayna Picchu Mountain, after the tour, you will climb this mountain. But reserving a space depends on availability. If the situation arises where there are no Huayna Picchu permits for your departure date (although this does not usually happen), you will have to climb Machu Picchu Mountain instead. After spending a fantastic time at the Incan emperor's palace, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu town, the village of Aguas Calientes, where we will enjoy lunch (this is excluded). We will board the train back to Ollantaytambo train station and/or Poroy train station in the afternoon. Regarding this site, continue driving to your hotel located in Cusco.
