ITINERARY

Detailed Itinerary for our Horseback Riding Peru

Day 1:

Note: On the first day, we will pick you up from Cusco or Sacred Valley of the Incas; we will coordinate with you before the horse riding to Machu Picchu.

Option 1: Cusco – Killarumiyoq – Chillipahua.

Transfer from Cusco to the started point of riding. After an hour of the journey, we will stop at the sacred Inca Killarumiyuc (in the Quechua language) or Moonstone sanctuary. It is an ancient temple dedicated to the deity of femininity. The site is not only an age-perfect design but also includes areas of cultivation systems, and the moon cult became a sacred area for the people of the Andes. After seeing the experimental agricultural center, we will continue to the village of Huarocondo (3,331 m.a.s.l.). Then we will drive 25 minutes to Paraiso.

Option 2: Sacred Valley – Ñaupa-Iglesia – Chillipahua.

Transfer from Sacred Valley of the Incas in our private transportation. After 25 minutes of the journey, we will explore the spiritual Inca Ñaupa-Iglesia (Ancient- Church). You will find an Inca cross o Andean cross called (Chacana). After seeing the sacred place, we will continue to the village of Llama Pintayoq in the Quechua language or Lama painted; we will see pre-Inca paintings on the rock. Then we continue up the valley for 25 minutes until the starting point of our trek; hence, we will meet our team and start trekking on the horses. Start point: We start Horseback riding to Machu Picchu on a wide path north, above the west bank of the river called Huaracondo. We will observe beautiful valleys, mountains, archaeological ruins, and the impressive Inca city of Watta, a crucial pre-Inca fortress that dominates the crest of a hill at 3,855 meters. Immediately we will explore the town, which is admired for its strategic location, then we will descend for 30 minutes to the lunch spot before going to Chillipahua Village (3,750 m.a.s.l.), the village where we spend the night. We will also have the opportunity to participate in the daily life of the local people.

Day 2: Indigenous Experience

A day spent with the villagers, ceremony, dance, eating local food. They will share their passion for culture and history in this Native village, an interactive experience that will immerse you in a journey from the past of an Inca culture to the world of present-day Inca descendants at Chillipahua Village. Witness daily life and celebrate the colorful culture of the modern Native people as it unfolds right before your eyes. Listen to the sounds of their language, learn about traditional home remedies, savor a traditional Andean meal, make new friends and see the world through their eyes. Day 3: Chillipahua – Ancascocha.

After a delicious breakfast, we will start Horseback riding to Machu Picchu. We will climb gradually through potatoes fields, Inca Aqueducts, and native trees of Chachacomo. This landscape of pastures and big fields cling to the steep slopes and red mountains. On the way, we will find indigenous Peruvian villages that still keep the Incas ancient traditions regarding agriculture, religion, music, language, culture, and others. Then we will continue on our way up to the Accoccasa Pass (4,425 m.a.s.l.). Here we will enjoy a breathtaking view of the immense, snowy peaks. We will feel the full extent of the Andean sky with its' cold, dry air. Later we will continue our journey on the flat trail used by indigenous pastures once we descend to Qenqo Mayu Valley. We will have organic lunch. Then reach our camp in the spacious Ancascocha (4,150 m.a.s.l.), opposite the glaciers of the Cordillera Huaynay.

Day 4: Ancascocha – Inca Quarry - Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes Machupicchu

After breakfast, we will continue horseback riding to Machu Picchu. We will ascend to the head of Chancachuco valley; here, we will see the Inca aqueduct carved out of the cliffs to take water from Chancachuco Valley to the Sacred Valley of the Incas miles away. Later on, we will reach our final step at Rainbow pass, 4,340 m.a.s.l. from this pass; we will descend along the hidden valley and narrow trail; in this part of the path, we will hike 45 minutes. Finally, we will reach the Intiwatana- sun gate. This temple is located at the highest point in the area. This area was important to the Incas to make astronomical observations and plan the agricultural year. From there, we will have a breathtaking view of Nevado Veronica (5,682 meters), and we will enjoy the sunset and the idea of the Urubamba River. Then we will continue with the hike and reach Cachicata (3,525 m), a large terrace at the edge of a vast quarry with the same name. This was an Inca city inhabited by hundreds of architects and workers of the empire. You can find buildings used for administration housing, terraces, burial chambers, and irrigations canal in Cachicata. The streets were very well planned. Then we will continue downhill, crossing the Vilcanota River and finally arriving at the famous Sun Temple in Ollantaytambo. We will have time to explore the village and the temple before taking the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes (2040 m.a.s.l) in the afternoon. Once we get to Aguas Calientes, we will check in to our hotel, where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco.

We will get up early to enjoy the sunrise at Machu Picchu, eat breakfast, and take the bus towards the Inca ruins. We will have a guided tour that will take approximately 2 to 3 hours, and then you can climb Huayna Picchu. After we finish our visit, we will return to Aguas Calientes. You can enjoy amenities like lunch in the city, and later in the afternoon, we will take the train back, Perú Rail – Expedition *. Upon arrival in Cusco, our transfer will be waiting to take you on a private Van to your hotel. End of the adventure.

Criollo Horse

"Criollo horse" is called a horse breed that is distributed throughout South America, Central America, and North America. In the countries of the continent it has been developing in different ways and especially in Peru. The "Criollo horse" is the feature breed of the Andes of Peru and each year there are more people who owns them, use them for hard farm work, or enjoy their leisure time.

Features

The "Criollo horse" is considered a hard resistance horse, famous for the marches of resistance that are held in Argentina and Uruguay, it is a horse for work in any field, but can be used as a riding horse for leisure riding, is a very versatile horse. A great companion to crossings, his character is friendly and always ready to listen his rider, sometimes it is quite territorial because remember "this breed grows up in nature". He is pretty energetic and friendly with humans, especially with kids.

  • During the Machu Picchu horse riding, the passenger will have access to a variety of food. Dishes rich in calories, vitamins, and proteins will provide all of the energy you need for the trek.
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served daily, and you will also receive snacks and hot drinks like infusions in the afternoon. Along with your breakfast, you will receive a cup of coca tea, which will help you adjust to the mountain's cold air.
We will provide water every day during the entire horseback riding in Peru. - We can also accommodate special requests such as vegetarian meals, diabetic diets, and allergies. These special requests must be made during the booking process. We would like to emphasize that our professional chefs have elaborated our menu.

The Machu Picchu horse riding is not included.

Lunch and dinner on the last day are not included.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

How safe is it the horseback riding tour in Cusco? The practice of outdoor activities has inherent risks. To reduce them to a minimum, Wari Adventures works with qualified personnel and qualified guides with experience in the places in which we operate. They are proud of their guides, and muleteers. All have a deep knowledge and great love for the work they do. Thanks to them, their safety record is excellent. Advice for horse riders This tour is organized for all travelers and doesn't demand good physical condition because there are not hard activities to do. This package is dedicated to families.

DUFFEL BAGS:

Duffel bags are small suitcases or bags used to store your personal belongings. These will be handed out to clients one day before the start of the hike at our offices. In them, you will place the personal belongings needed for the Trek. As part of your tour package, you will be assigning a porter, who will carry up to 8kg of your gear. You will hand your duffel bags to our porters on the first day of the hike. The duffels will be returning to you at each campsite. At the end of the hike, the duffels will be returning, something you will have to coordinate with your guide. The measurements are 65 cm long x 40 cm wide.

LUGGAGE STORAGE:

The trips on the Inca Trail and alternate routes do not need to carry your luggage, for which we have luggage storage service in our office; if you return from your trip to the same hotel where you stayed, you can leave it. Will return this equipment when you return from your trip and take it with you to your hotel. If you have valuable things, please contact us to take them into account and protect them.

PICK-UPS

Will coordinate the pick-up times with the group leader; will do this from your hotel, lodging, and Airbnb, for which the passenger must provide the exact address and reference; the pick-up time is usually at 5:00 am for the different routes.

RETURN TO CUSCO

The return from the city of Machupicchu requires absolute punctuality for the transportation organization, for which we will provide all the return details. We buy the train tickets usually for 2:55 pm, so you can arrive at 7:00 pm in the city of Cusco, consider the time delay due to traffic in the city of Cusco. The return includes transportation and transfers; we will be pending any change or delay in transportation and train services.

IMPORTANT

There is no internet service on the Inca Trail during the 3-day Trek, so that you will experience a better connection with nature. In case of emergency, we have specialized doctors for immediate attention according to your requirements. - NOTE: The toilet facilities along the Inca Trail to Machupicchu have been improved both in infrastructure and in quantity and quality along the route, so a portable chemical toilet is not necessary for Wari Adventures due to sanitation issues with the staff in charge. - The itinerary provided here is subject to change without notice, depending on factors such as strikes, weather conditions, roadblocks, or other situations beyond our control.
