DESCRIPTION

The tour of Maras and Moray begins with a visit to the colonial town of Maras and its church. From Maras, we continue to Moray; you will observe a spectacular series of circular terraces carved into the earth that the Incas once used to experiment with different crops. The views are breathtaking, with thousands of white pools stretching down the valley. Our final destination is the salt mines that still used since pre-Inca times. Water from an underground stream is channeled through ponds where it evaporates, leaving behind crystals of pure salt.

ITINERARY

Brief Itinerary

Half day: Tour Maras - Moray

The tour lasts approximately half a day. Our private van will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco or Urubamba (8 am for the morning tour or noon for the afternoon tour) to take you to our first stop: The agricultural laboratory of Moray. This Inca archaeological complex is attractive because it was designed and built by the Incas as a horticultural experimentation center. It is visually impressive because the concentric circles are enormous and perfectly dug into the fields between the mountains. Our guide will tell you many more captivating facts as we explore the site. Then, we will return to the village of Maras, where we will take a short walk. To continue our journey through time, we will pass through indigenous communities to our next stop: the salt mines of Maras. This natural salt mine has been in operation for over a thousand years and is still used in the same artisanal way today.
