You'll trek through the lush Peruvian jungle as you get closer and closer to the Wonder of the World, Machu Picchu. The dramatic change in climate and environment is one of the aspects that make this exciting trail so unique. Not only will you be enveloped by the scenery, but you will also see some beautiful destinations on many travelers' bucket lists. On the first day, you will hike up to the stunning Humantay Lake, which sits like a blue jewel among the snowy backdrop. On day 2, we will embark on the challenging trail up to the Salkantay Pass to see the majestic Salkantay Mountain. On Day 4, you can visit the fascinating Inca archaeological site of Llactapata and get the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Suppose that's not enough to get your blood pumping; what better way to end the last trip than with a visit to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. You'll enjoy a 2-hour guided tour before heading out to explore the citadel on your own or climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for a unique panoramic view of the fortress. ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Laguna Humantay - Salkantaypampa.
  • Day 2: Salkantaypampa - Saantay Pass - Chaullay.
  • Day 3: Chaullay - La Playa - Lucmabamba.
  • Day 4: Lucmabamba-LLactapata-Aguas Calientes.
  • Day 5: Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Laguna Humantay - Salkantaypampa.

The transfer will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel in a private van and take you to the start of your hike in Soraypampa; the travel time to this place is about 4 hours. During the trip, we will visit some picturesque Andean villages until we reach Killarumiyuc, known as "The cradle of Inca astronomy," where the Agricultural Calendar stands out. Later we will enjoy a delicious breakfast and continue to Mollepata "Pueblecito," where we will make a brief stop to walk the streets and buy some things we will need for the hike. After 1 ½ hour of more valleys surrounded by majestic mountains and icy peaks, we will arrive at Soraypampa, where we will see the Apu Salkantay in the distance. Once here, we will decide the route to follow for our hike depending on the physical condition of our participants. First Option: Ascend the mountain on the left side with the opportunity to see the beauty of the Andean lake and other surrounding peaks. Finally, we will descend by the same route and take our usual path to our campsite. Second Option: Skip the ascent to the mountain and follow the traditional route that will take us directly to our campsite. On the way to our campsite, we will see the local people and learn about their traditional way of life, where livestock and agriculture are of great importance and why it is still practiced today. As we progress, we will get closer and closer to one of the most important mountains in southern Peru, the Great Salkantay, known as "The Guardian of the Andes." Then we will continue ascending by a winding path to the Soyrococha lagoon, where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Salkantaypampa - Saantay pass-wayracmachay- Chaullay.

After waking up surrounded by mountains and a lake, we will have a fortifying breakfast and begin our hike ascending gradually for approximately 1 ½ hrs. to the trail's highest point. The Salkantay Pass (4,600 masl). We will have a panoramic view of the Andes, its mountain ranges, glaciers, lakes, and streams. You will feel closer to the sky and a deeper connection with nature, feeling the true magic and energy of the Andes. After a well-deserved rest, we will descend the mountain slowly until we reach Huayracmachay (4,000 masl), leaving the Salkantay behind. After 2 hours, we will arrive at our lunch stop. Later we will continue descending through an area belonging to the highest part of the jungle known as "Andenes" (3,800 masl). Here we can observe vast vegetation, bamboo forest, and a great variety of wild orchids, bromeliads, and other typical flowers of the area. Soon, the second camp is within reach: Collpapampa (2,950 masl).

Day 3: Chaullay - La Playa- Lucmabamba.

This is a more leisurely hike through the upper jungle or yunga, where we will see extraordinary flora and fauna, especially fruit, coffee, tea, and bamboo plantations. Our Lucmabamba camp (1850 masl) tends to have a much warmer climate as it is located in the humid part of the forest. The weather is humid and warm, characteristic of the semi-tropical zone. On the way, we will also see some communities that still practice Inca traditions. On this day, we will have the opportunity to participate in the daily activities of these communities, such as coffee, avocado, and passion fruit* plantations. We will share in their traditions and food. It will be a day full of culturally significant learning experiences. * Included in the price Optional: The thermal baths of Santa Teresa to get to Lucmabamba camp. You take a round-trip bus to get to the hot springs and enjoy the thermal baths of the valley.

Day 4: Lucmabamba-LLactapata-Aguas Calientes.

After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our hike following the traditional Inca Trail. We will ascend the mountain gradually for 2 hours to the archaeological site of Llactapata (2749 masl) (Quechua for village/elevated place). From here, we can finally see the citadel of Machu Picchu to the right, Huayna Picchu to the left, a part of the traditional Inca Trail, and the Urubamba River that meanders through the valley. After a short rest, we will descend for 3 hours on a winding path through narrow and slippery spaces until we reach the valley (hydroelectric building). Here we will take the train to Aguas Calientes to a hotel where we will spend the night. Perhaps you would like to visit the hot springs of Aguas Calientes at night.
Note: In case a passenger feels unwell or for any other reason that does not allow them to continue with the Trek on the fourth day, there is the option to take a vehicle from Lucmabamba - Santa Teresa - Hydroelectric, where you will meet up with the group and continue all together to Aguas Calientes.
In Santa Teresa, it is possible to participate in activities such as Zipline; for example, all these services ARE NOT included in the price of the program. If you wish to participate in one of them, you are responsible for the additional costs. In addition, transportation to/from St. Teresa is NOT included in the program.

Day 5: Machu Picchu.

After a hot breakfast at the hotel, we will take the early bus to Machu Picchu; we will climb for an hour and a half until we reach the mountain of Machu Picchu to have a panoramic view of the entire contour of the Inca Citadel, this will be a unique and unforgettable experience. Then you will have a 2 to 3-hour tour to get the information about the sacred city and the opportunity to explore and admire the Inca ingenuity. Then we will head back to Aguas Calientes by bus and to Cusco by train.

It will take place in the morning the day before departure. If the departure date is on a Monday, the briefing will take place on Saturday morning. Please take this into account when booking your flight to Cusco.

Transportation for the Salkantay expedition.

Tourist bus and transportation to the start of the Salkantay Expedition. EXPEDITION train leaving Aguas Calientes in the afternoon. Pick up from the train station and transfer to the Hotel in Cusco.

Camping staff on the Trek.

Professional tour guide fluent in English, specialized in trekking, with many years of experience and trained in first aid and rescue, who will attend from the first day to the last day of the Trek, leaving you at your hotel. Professional chef, kitchen assistant, and waiter for customer service. Our chefs are graduates of culinary schools with many years of experience cooking in the mountains; we meet them at km 82.

Tickets for the Salkantay expedition.

Tourist ticket to Salkantay & Inca Trail and Machupicchu. This ticket will be given on the first day of the Trek and will be used on the way to Machupicchu.

Camping equipment.

  • Eureka high mountain tent, which is waterproof and thermal, for up to 4 people, but for comfort, we use it only for two people.
  • Dining tent.

  • Bathroom Tent and Portable Bathroom.
  • Camping tables and chairs.
  • Crockery.

  • Radio communication: They are configured with radios used by workers on the Inca Trail and Machupicchu. We maintain constant contact in case of emergencies.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

DUFFEL BAGS:

This will be provided to you at the time of giving you the general information one day before starting your Trek to each participant, and these will be carried by the porters on the Inca Trail and by the horses on the alternate routes. Consider that the weight is significant for the porters and horses; at maximum, you have to pack 7 kg, this is including the sleeping bags and inflatable mats. These DAFFLO BAGS will be returned at the end of the adventure or left at your hotel at the reception desk. Measurements are 65 cm long x 40 cm wide.

LUGGAGE STORAGE:

The trips on the Inca Trail and alternate routes do not need to carry your luggage, for which we have the luggage storage service in our office; if you return from your trip to the same hotel where you stayed, you can leave it. This equipment will be returned at the moment you return from your trip and taken it with you to your hotel. If you have valuable things, please contact us to take them into account and protect them.

PICK-UPS

The pick-up times will be coordinated with the group leader; this will be done from your hotel, lodging, and Airbnb, for which the passenger must provide the exact address and reference; the pick-up time is usually at 5:00 am for the different routes.

RETURN TO CUSCO

The return from the city of Machupicchu requires absolute punctuality for the organization of transportation, for which we will provide all the details of the return. We buy the train tickets typically for 2:55 pm, so you can arrive at 7:00 pm in the city of Cusco, consider the time delay due to traffic in the city of Cusco. The return is included transportation and transfers; we will be pending any change or delay of the transportation service and train service.
