ITINERARY

Day 01: Cusco - Puerto Maldonado

Meet your transfer to the airport for an early flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon jungle. Upon arrival, a representative will meet you at the airport and accompany you to the port for your boat transfer to your jungle lodge. Leaving the town of Puerto Maldonado behind will soon envelop you in the entirely different world of the surrounding rainforest as you travel upstream on the Tambopata River, the jungle canopy towering on either side. - Upon arrival at the lodge, you will have time to settle in and relax, meet your guide, and learn about the various activities you will enjoy during your stay. Many of the lodges are located within the territory of the native Ese'eja community and are built with the same materials and architectural techniques used by native communities throughout the Amazon. You will enjoy a delicious dinner and enjoy the rest of the night at leisure.

Day 02: Amazon tour

- Mornings in the jungle always start early, and today you will leave at dawn for your first Amazon adventure. The morning tends to be the best time of day to see a variety of wildlife. Today, you may be able to see caimans, turtles, hoatzins, toucans, and, if you are lucky, endangered giant river otters that can reach a length of six feet! You will return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on another adventure with your expert naturalist guide. This afternoon will focus on flora, and your guide will walk with you through the forest, pointing out hidden jungle inhabitants and numerous native plants. - After dinner, you will head back into the jungle for an evening walk. Visitors often say that experiencing the wilderness at night, on a dark trail with only a flashlight, is an unforgettable experience. Alternatively, you can simply relax to the sounds of the jungle in the hammock of your cabin. Once the sun goes down, the jungle comes alive with a new variety of nocturnal creatures.
Note: The exact order of activities may vary due to weather conditions and other considerations. Your Amazon guide will detail the activities you will enjoy each day.

Day 03: Amazon Tour.

- After breakfast, you will hike through the jungle to learn more about how local communities use the forest daily. During the walk, you may see toucans, many other species of birds, different species of monkeys, and even occasional sloths. - You will return to the lodge for lunch and have time to rest and relax before embarking on another tour. This time, you will learn more about human life in the rainforest by examining the type of fruits and vegetables grown by the local communities. Return to the jungle lodge before sunset for your last night in the Peruvian jungle. Note: The exact order of activities may vary due to weather conditions and other considerations. Your Amazon guide will detail the activities you will enjoy each day.

Day 04: Return to Cusco

- Say goodbye to the jungle as you return to the city and the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival at the Cusco airport, our representative will meet you for the trip to the historic center. Along the way, observe examples of Spanish colonial architecture built over the remains of ancient Inca palaces and temples. - The city is high altitude, so you will spend the rest of the day taking it easy as you acclimate—overnight in Cuzco.
